The 12 Houses (Bhavas): Departments of Life
If Planets are the Actors, and Signs are their Costumes, then the Houses are the Stage. Each House represents a specific "department" of your life—career, marriage, money, health, etc.
When a planet sits in a house, it focuses its energy on that specific area.
- Mars in the 10th House (Career): You fight for your career (Ambitious Leader).
- Mars in the 4th House (Home): You fight in your home (Domestic conflict).
Same actor (Mars), same energy (fighting), but a completely different scene.
How to Read a House (The 3-Step Method)
To judge if a department of life (e.g., Money) is good or bad, you must check 3 things:
- The House Itself: Is there a planet sitting inside it?
- Benefics (Jupiter, Venus, Moon, Mercury) improve it.
- Malefics (Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu, Sun) stress it.
- The Lord of the House: Where is the landlord?
- If the Lord of the 2nd House (Money) is in the 12th House (Loss), money drains away.
- If the Lord of the 2nd House is in the 11th House (Gains), money multiplies.
- The Karaka (Significator): Who is the natural boss?
- For Money, check Jupiter. Even if the House and Lord are weak, a strong Jupiter can save you.
The 4 Key Groups
1. The Kendra Houses (Action & Power)
Houses 1, 4, 7, 10 These are the pillars of the chart. Planets here are strong and active. They manifest results in the physical world. They are like the "Walls" of your life.
2. The Trikona Houses (Luck & Grace)
Houses 1, 5, 9 These are the most auspicious houses (Dharma). Planets here bring blessings, past-life merit, and easy opportunities. They are the "Roofs" that protect you.
3. The Dusthana Houses (Challenge & Growth)
Houses 6, 8, 12 These are the "difficult" houses. They deal with suffering, loss, and transformation. However, they are also where we grow the most. A strong planet here can make you a healer, a surgeon, or a spiritual master.
4. The Upachaya Houses (Improvement)
Houses 3, 6, 10, 11 These houses improve with time. Planets here (especially Malefics like Mars and Saturn) get better results as you age. They reward hard work.
